- Make ready 1 Tbsp thick tamarind pulp
I already have few version of onion tomato chutney in my blog. I dont make the same chutney. Very easy to prepare and tastes really yummy and delicious. This can be made in different ways to suite.
Instructions to make Onion Tomato Chutney:
- Let’s heat the pan. Now add oil. When oil is hot add asafoetida, urad dal, dry red chillies, mustard seeds and sauté lightly.
- When the dal started turning brown, add cumin seeds, garlic cloves, small piece of ginger, green chilli and sauté for a while. Now add onion chunks. Nicely toss it. Do not let the onions go brown. Onions are soft now.
- Now add chopped tomatoes, add salt and give it a nice toss, add thick tamarind pulp, mix it well and cook it for 10 minutes. Now switch off the flame and transfer into the blender. Do not add water and make a fine paste. Now Chutney is ready & enjoy with dosa/Idli
This Onion Tomato Chutney Recipe is usually my quick-fix chutney that uses no coconut which means it doesn't require me to defrost the coconut and it goes especially well with idli and dosa. You can replace mint leaves with coriander leaves for Onion Tomato chutney with coriander flavour.
